Breaking records in Grey Highlands!

Six month before the election, we set out to prove that candidate recruitment could be done differently! And our efforts paid off.

All across Ontario, hundreds of mayors were acclaimed and more than 30 municipalities didn’t even have an election at all… because the entire council was acclaimed! But here in Grey Highlands we saw the exact opposite: New record highs!

Step One

We started with a public push. Full colour leaflets mailed to each door!

And rather than announcing that “The Nomination Period” has begun, we used plain language that anyone could understand.

Step Two:

The leaflet helped us identify people who were curious about running. Our next step was to convince them to take the plunge! We organised two public info sessions, to help answer questions and offer support.

Step Three

To ensure that we were reaching a wide audience, we designed engaging and fun social media posts and paid money to boost those posts across the municipality.

Step Four

Cheerleading! We know that putting your own name on the ballot can be intimidating, so we kept in close touch with all of the people who had expressed interest and gently encouraged them to take the plunge, gather their required nomination signatures and file their papers!
